For Listeners
Listener Agreement
Your data stays yours. This is what we promise, what we provide, and what we ask in return. Last updated 2025.
What We Promise You
As a listener on Music United, you have our word on the following:
- We will never sell, share, or package your personal data with third parties. Your listening habits, your profile, and your purchase history belong to you.
- We will never use your data to train AI models, build advertising profiles, or target you with personalised ads. We do not run ads. Period.
- We will never lock your purchased music behind a subscription. Tracks you buy are yours — you can download them any time, even if you cancel.
- Streaming is free, unlimited, and available to every listener. No paywalls on playback. No track limits. No forced upgrades to hear music.
- Your Patron subscription goes directly to funding live events, paying artists to perform, and supporting local charities. We do not profit from it.
- You can delete your account at any time. No lock-in, no exit fees, no penalties. We remove your data from our servers.
- We will never introduce dynamic pricing, surge pricing, or hidden fees. What you see is what you pay.
What You Get
Free Tier
Unlimited streaming across every track, artist, and genre on the platform. Browse and attend events, buy tickets, purchase tracks at a flat per-megabyte rate, join artist VIP clubs, build your public listener profile, and read every blog post. No cost, no time limit, no ads.
Listener Patron (£2/mo)
Everything in the free tier, plus: your subscription funds patron-funded live events and community projects. You get voting rights in the Road Map Forum to shape what gets built, VIP Club access with your favourite artists, a permanent download library for purchased audio, a Patron badge, and early access to new features.
Delivery
Streaming and downloads are completely free for listeners. We cover all delivery costs through our infrastructure partnerships. Your music plays fast, sounds great, and costs you nothing to listen to.
What We Ask in Return
- Use the platform respectfully — the artists here are real, independent people sharing their work.
- Do not redistribute, re-upload, or resell purchased tracks. A purchase is for your personal use.
- Keep your account credentials secure. You are responsible for activity under your account.
- Follow the community guidelines in the Acceptable Use Policy.
- Do not attempt to circumvent streaming, download, or access controls.
- If you see something that does not belong on the platform, report it.
What Happens With Your Data
We collect only what we need to run the platform — your email, your profile information, and your listening activity. Here is exactly what we do and do not do with it:
We do
- Show artists aggregate play counts so they know their music is being heard.
- Use your listening history to show you your own play history and favourites.
- Process payments securely through Stripe — we never see or store your card details.
- Report streaming data to PPL UK as required by our webcaster licence.
We never
- Sell your data to advertisers, data brokers, or anyone else.
- Build advertising or behavioural profiles from your activity.
- Use your data to train machine learning or AI models.
- Share your personal information with third parties for marketing.
- Track you across other websites or apps.
Your Purchases
When you buy a track, the entire purchase price goes to the artist. Music United takes zero commission — that is the Gatekeeper's Pledge.
Purchased tracks are yours permanently. You can download them at any time, even if you later cancel a Patron subscription or delete your account. A purchase is a purchase — not a rental.
Event tickets work the same way. The price you see is the price you pay, and the full amount goes to the artist or event organiser.
If You Want to Leave
You can cancel your Patron subscription and delete your account at any time. There are no lock-in periods, no exit fees, and no penalties.
When you delete your account, we remove your profile, your listening history, your favourites, and all associated personal data from our servers.
Tracks you have purchased remain available for download for 30 days after account deletion. After that, the download links expire — so make sure you have saved anything you want to keep.
If your Patron subscription lapses, you keep full access to free-tier features — unlimited streaming, event browsing, and track purchases. You only lose Patron-specific perks like voting rights and the Patron badge.
